The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind. posted by jwatson on Jan 07, 2016

“The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind.”
Psalm 110:4

Change is a way of life.  It takes place day in and day out, no matter how much we try to keep things the same.  Some folks like change; and some hate it.  If it is deemed good or bad is in the eyes of each one of us.

God does not change.  That is a good thing.

First, if God does change, then the Word of God is not true.  That the Word of God is true is a claim that God makes in His Word.  That we can trust in the Word of God as being true is the rock on which we build our lives (see Matthew 7:24: He who hears these words of Mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock”).  Truth will not and does not change.  Two plus two will always add up to four.

Next, if God does change, it would mean that His plan – let’s call it Plan A – was not happening as He said it would.  So, there is some power or force that is more powerful than God.  You need to know that God will not ever have to say,  “I need to try Plan B because Plan A did not work!”  There is no Plan B in the counsel of God.  His Plan A will come to pass.

God calls us to change. That is a good thing.

The day we admit our sin, trust Christ and are saved, we are changed from death to life.  Sin is gone from us as far as the east is from the west.  Our Lord says that we will not die but will live.  Now that is a great change!

From the day we admit our sin, trust Christ and are saved, the Spirit of God dwells in our lives.  He starts to bring change to our mind, our heart, our attitude, our values, our priorities and our actions.  He begins to change how we talk, how we choose what to read and what to watch, and how we spend the cash He gives to us.  This, too, is a great change!  It is also a change we need!!

Today, fix your mind and heart on these biblical truths about change:

  • God does not change – and that is a good thing.
  • God is at work to change us – and that is a good thing. For when He brings change to our lives, He is conforming us to be like the Lord Jesus Christ!

The Gospel is the “change agent” at work in your life.  Thank God that someone shared the Gospel with you.  Now it is your turn.  People around you who do not know Christ are headed in the wrong direction, ending in a Christless eternity.  They desperately need a change of direction.  Be the agent of change in these lives.  Be the one to share the Gospel with them!
