A Valid Argument posted by jwatson on Jul 05, 2013

Olivia Gordon is an intern with the D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship in Washington, D.C.

Recently, the other interns and I spent the day with John Sorenson and he posed a question that stuck with me.  How do you know when God has spoken to you?  We all had answers but it came down to one main thing. Peace.

I am really good at arguing with God and justifying my desires.  I can easily talk myself into something but 5 minutes later that nagging feeling of uncertainty surfaces.  I know the moment when I step outside of God’s will but many times, I try and ignore it.  Thankfully, I have the Holy Spirit to guide me and help me fight my selfish desires.

John 14:16-21 says, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever —  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.  Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.  On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.  Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Because of my horrible habit of justification I find this passage to be a huge comfort!  Those of us that have the Spirit know how crucial it is to listen to that voice and the peace that fills us when we do!  Praise God for loving us enough to send a guide for our journey.
