Adjust Your Focus posted by John Sorensen on Oct 08, 2019

You know, it can be easy to go through your life focusing on yourself while forgetting to pay attention to the needs of others. The same can be true while witnessing. We might be determined to share the Gospel with someone, all the while completely ignoring their needs.

An easy to remember tool to share your faith is the hand presentation. It has five main points and it’s simple! First, hold up your thumb. Heaven is a free gift. Our index finger reminds us that man is a sinner. We need God’s grace! Which leads to our third finger – God. He’s righteous and our sin causes separation from Him. That’s a big problem, but it’s solved by Jesus, represented by our fourth finger. Lastly, faith. We just have to accept this free gift by faith!

Now, we can go through this hand presentation quickly and get straight to the point – our need for salvation, but we need to make sure we’re taking the time to listen to the other person, and adjust our presentation as the Holy Spirit leads. For example, Scot was sharing his faith with a man and spent most of his time explaining just who Jesus is. When Scot got to the ‘Jesus part,’ the man stopped him and said, ‘who is Jesus? I don’t know this person.’ The man had never heard of Jesus before, so Scot focused on explaining who our Savior is.

The next time you witness, pay attention to what the person in front of you needs to hear. Maybe they don’t understand the difference between temporary faith and saving faith, or they think getting to Heaven is by good works, so you adjust your focus. Whatever it is, ask the Lord to give you the words to speak.

This is our focus this week at Evangelism Explosion through our social media channels and our daily broadcast.
