When sharing the Gospel with someone, how do you respond if they say, “Wait a minute. How can you be certain that you are going to Heaven someday? That seems rather arrogant!”
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International. In actuality, it’s not arrogance at all because 1 John 5:13 tells us, “These things have I written that you may know that you have eternal life.” Instead, it shows humility to be certain because the Christian understands that our relationship with God depends on Jesus and not on anything we do to merit God’s favor. Christianity is a humble acknowledgement that my character is flawed. It is broken. I need a Substitute. I need God to come and live the life that I couldn’t live, and die the death that I deserved to die. So, it is actually arrogant to believe that Jesus’ life, death and resurrectionisn’t adequate enough to bring us to Heaven. For more tips, tools and Gospel resources, visit ShareLife.today.
