One of the common errors in giving a testimony is to belabor the negative and minimize the positive.

Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International.   When you share your story of God calling you to Himself and changing your life, you want to focus on the positive benefits of being a believer. I remember hearing one testimony in particular that went something like this:  “When I accepted Christ, I lost all of my friends.  They had nothing to do with me.  Then I lost my job and gave up on those people who do worldly things.”  Now, I don’t know about you, but if I had heard that testimony before I came to know Christ, I would have thought, “no thanks.” There are wonderful, positive benefits to knowing Christ and that should be the focus of your testimony, like this one: “When I accepted Christ, I had such peace of mind and my fear of death was gone.  And I have felt this calming presence ever since.”
