Bringing Hope and Peace to Haiti posted by John Sorensen on Sep 30, 2021
On August 14, 2021, at 8:29 am local time, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck southwestern Haiti. Two days later, Tropical Depression Grace made landfall over the same area, generating heavy rain and strong winds. As of September 7th, 2,207 people have died, 12,268 were injured, 129,929 houses have been destroyed, and 650,000 people are in dire need of assistance (USAID’s Fact Sheet #11)
We hear about these events, and our hearts break. But as Christians we understand that these physical challenges take place within a larger, spiritual battle. And they are clear openings for the Gospel (Luke 13:2-5).
Meet Bazner Dor. Bazner is our National Director for EE Haiti. One of the reasons that EE is so focused on building strong national ministries is so that we can be ready to share the Gospel when tragedy strikes and opportunities arise. Basnor gets this.
He recently said, “These areas that have been impacted by the recent disasters, most are under the influence of voodoo. People are filled with fear. If we bring the Gospel to the Haitian people, certainly their spiritual condition will change, and peace will reign here.”
Bazner has a plan to take advantage of these openings and carry the Gospel to the people of Haiti. He is preparing 31 brave, committed men and women who will travel to the affected areas to train pastors and share the Gospel.
They have committed to reach three hard hit areas of Haiti during the remainder of 2021. They plan to train at least 15 pastors in each area and share the Gospel with over 500 people, bringing hope where hope is desperately needed. Each seven-day traveling clinic will cost $2,000 (including all travel expenses, accommodations for the team, training materials, Gospel tracts, and follow up material). That’s $4 for every soul that hears the Good News of Jesus Christ!
Here’s an opportunity to take Haiti back from the spiritual darkness that rules there. Bazner exclaimed, “Our sense is to take the Gospel to them now! I would love to bring hope. Together, we can make a difference in Haiti!”
As EEI’s President, I’ve prayerfully committed to support this plan as part of Evangelism Explosion’s Every Person Campaign. And I would like to give you the opportunity to be part of this outreach too.
Will you join us to help make these outreach efforts possible? Any gift, no matter how large or small, will make an eternal difference. Even if it’s not possible for you to give right now, will you place this letter into your Bible and join us in prayer for Haiti as these teams travel to train pastors and share the Gospel?
Your prayers and financial support enable us to continue equipping believers around the world to be the hands and feet of Jesus – to take the Good News to those who are hurting and longing for hope.
Paul reminds us in Hebrews 6:19 that “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” The Gospel brings hope. No war or natural disaster can take that hope away.
Thank you for your continued support of this ministry. We could not continue to do the work that we do without God’s grace and your prayers and financial support.
May God bless you as you continue to serve Him.
Together in His service,
Rev. John B. Sorensen, D.D., D.H.L.
