Have you ever heard of Bert Elliott? He’s the not-so-famous brother.
I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International. Jim Elliott is quite famous…one of the five missionaries martyred in 1956 in Ecuador. Bert is Jim’s “not-so-famous” brother. In 1949, Bert and his wife Colleen began missionary work in Peru. They were in their 80’s and still on the mission field when the Lord called them home – having spent over 60 years in Peru leading thousands to the Lord and starting nearly 200 churches.
Of his brother’s fame, Bert says that Jim was like a “great meteor, streaking through the sky.” Well, most of us will not be great meteors. Rather, we will be like Bert and Colleen, faithful stars shining day in and day out in the routine of our lives, committed to sharing the Gospel with those the Lord brings into our lives.
