A friend of mine frequently says, “Assumption is the lowest form of knowledge.” I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International. If someone says, “I don’t think that will work” well that’s an assumption. It may or may not work.
On the topic of Sharing Life Today, what follows is not an assumption. I know this works. I’ve used it and seen it work again and again. You’re in a restaurant and your server has just finished taking your order. Since the server is wearing a nametag, you can begin with his or her name. Say something like, “Brenda, in a minute we’re going to pray for our meal. We would love to pray for you. Is there something that you’d like us to include in our prayer?” Often there is something specific mentioned. If not, just assure Brenda that you will pray for her in a general sense. Then, when you leave a Gospel tract with your generous gratuity, there’s a much better chance Brenda will actually read the Gospel presentation.
Try it and then leave us a comment comment below. We’d love to hear how it went.
