Divine Apointment
Dear Friend of Evangelism Explosion,
It began like any other day for Malcolm: ordinary. He had no indication that, by divine appointment, God would use him to intervene and forever change another life.
As usual, Malcolm woke up, dressed, ate breakfast and drove off to work. He was cruising along the interstate when he suddenly noticed a man, dressed in military fatigues, walking on the shoulder of the road ahead of him.
Immediately, Malcolm felt a chill and prompting to pull over and assist. “As I drove past him, it was like an elastic band was around me in my car and I just swerved and stopped,” he says.
The man began running toward his car.
As an EE trainer, Malcolm felt compelled to ask the gentleman the two EE diagnostic questions. It pulled at his heart like a heavy pressure upon his chest. “I felt that this was of the Holy Spirit,” he recalled.
Malcolm quickly rolled down his window. He didn’t say “hello.” He didn’t ask how the man was doing or attempt small talk.
The first words out of his mouth were, “Do you know for sure that if you died today you would go to be with God forever in Heaven?”
The man in fatigues was dumbfounded as he paused and looked around before replying to Malcolm.
“My life is a total disaster,” he said, “and I made a decision this morning that there was no reason left for me to live. I got out of my car on the side of this road and as I was walking I cried out, “God, if there is a God, you’ll reveal yourself to me!” He paused, then added: “And then your car stopped.”
Following Malcolm’s Gospel presentation, the gentleman made a profession of faith in Christ. Malcolm is grateful that the Holy Spirit guided him to both stop the car and to share.
The Gospel, the simple Good News of Christ, is what frees people from their sin, gives them purpose here on earth and removes the hopelessness that once weighed them down.
That’s what the EE ministry is all about. Sharing the Gospel.
I believe this gentleman, this new creature, will celebrate his new life in Christ and begin to share with others. Perhaps he will be trained in EE and become a trainer of others. It has happened millions of times in our 50-year history. That is where the Gospel rubber meets the road and spiritual multiplication soars. One man turns from death to life and becomes a trainer so others can experience the same freedom.
Through your prayers and gifts, you are helping change the lives of real people all over the world; people just like the man Malcolm felt led to share with. Malcolm’s story is just one of the millions of compelling EE dramas being played out on God’s great world stage.
I want you to know how thankful I am for your partnership. You are a blessing to me and the entire EE staff. One day, people in eternity from all over the world will say to you, “Thank you for your gift!”
Yours in His service,
Dr. John B. Sorensen
President
P.S. Due to a slow summer, our giving is currently behind budget. That’s the bad news, but we do have some good news—in fact, GREAT NEWS! The great news is that we’ve received a Matching Challenge Fund of $200,000 that will help us make this up so that the ministry can continue to train pastors and lay people all over the world to witness for Jesus Christ. Your gift today to the Great Commission Fund will be doubled! Would you consider giving a gift during October to help us? May God bless you as you do.
