Does God gasp? posted by jwatson on Apr 17, 2013

There are times when we need the reminder of the wise prophet named Isaiah:
“Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; Your walls are continually before Me” (Isaiah 49:16).

God has our failures, our challenges, our surprises, and even our unawareness in His hands. He is never shocked and nothing in our lives causes Him to gasp.

But we, on the other hand, can be awestruck, not only by how God works visibly in our lives but invisibly as well.

Not just another bus ride

Adrian, age seven, had no idea that his normal, everyday ride home on the bus would change his life forever. After getting on the bus, he sat behind a mother and her young son. The boy in front of Adrian was participating in EE’s Hope for Kids Gospel training at a local church, and he was reading the Pathway to Hope witnessing booklet to his mother. God had placed Adrian right where He wanted him, because Adrian began listening intently.

As soon as he arrived home, Adrian ran to his father, Armando, and shared everything he had heard, including the name of the church where the young boy attended the Hope for Kids training.

Armando was transfixed by what Adrian was sharing and, surprisingly, paid a visit to the church. He met the pastor who explained their Hope for Kids training and gave Armando the Pathway to Hope booklet. Armando brought the booklet home, and Adrian’s eyes opened wide when he saw his father in possession of the very booklet he spotted on the bus. Adrian and Armando devoured every word of the Gospel of Jesus Christ from that booklet. They both made professions of faith in Christ and now attend the church regularly.

The trails of God’s grace can be so obscure and even oblivious to us. The young boy who was trained to share his faith and who sat in front of Adrian may still be unaware of how God used him on the bus that day. But God is always at work, even when we least suspect it and especially when we’re trained to share our faith in Christ.
