For Heaven’s Sake—And Ours! posted by jwatson on Nov 29, 2012
One of the best books ever written on evangelism did not have evangelism as the topic. Yet it drove home the urgency of sharing the Gospel and brings to mind the crisis that exists in the church today.
The book I refer to is Heaven by Randy Alcorn. Backed by Scripture, Alcorn paints a picture of Heaven not as an endless worship service among people with wings floating on clouds. Instead, he describes it as a place with physical activity and thought and progress much like we are familiar with on earth, but in a perfect state.
While shedding light on Heaven, he also reveals the realities of Hell with all of its darkness, torment and no escaping. For unbelievers, Alcorn states that earth is the only Heaven they’ll ever know.
Alcorn’s book on Heaven could very well have been titled “Evangelism,” because by God’s grace and his use of you and I to share the gift of salvation through Christ, people are saved for all of eternity into Heaven’s great joy and satisfaction and spared from Hell’s eternal torment. The urgency cannot be underscored, and Heaven makes that very clear.
Unfortunately, there is a crisis in the church today. Most believers have taken a laissez faire attitude toward sharing their faith.
Our lives on earth are lived out between Heaven and Hell. The time is short. Take every opportunity that God provides to share your faith. And if you need training, we can help.
