Travis grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and got involved in gang activity when he was in grade school. A local church launched an after-school program where Travis and his friends heard the Gospel clearly for the first time. They also learned how to share their new faith in Christ. Travis left his gang and is now serving Christ with his family.

Children have a unique ability to share the Gospel that many adults often don’t possess. They have no fear, no inhibition. They understand the message of the Gospel and what it means for their friends who don’t know Jesus. They won’t hesitate to share that Good News with the people who matter to them most.

Jesus commanded us to reach children of all ages around us. “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these,” (Mark 10:14 NIV).

Churches have a wonderful opportunity to reach children just like Travis in their local neighborhoods through outreaches and events. But the children in your church have an even greater opportunity through their local schools, sports teams, and clubs. Why not train them how to share their faith as well? Sunday Schools, Vacation Bible Schools, and summer camps can be the perfect venue to introduce evangelism to children.

Ricky and Tina Fernandez decided to dedicate one hour each day of their annual summer camp to help kids learn how to share their faith. Every Friday, they included field trips to places like the Ronald McDonald House, where the children would have an opportunity to speak with other children. Their son, Daniel, even shared his faith with his gymnastics coach. Within a few weeks, church attendance grew 30%, among them was Daniel’s coach.

At Evangelism Explosion International, we believe that children are not the church of the future; they are the church of today. According to International Bible Society, 83% of Americans came to know Christ between the ages of 4 and 14. So imagine, if a child receives the Gospel and is then equipped to share the Good News, then the Gospel will go everywhere he goes.
