17 Year Old Incarcerated Youth Accepts Jesus posted by Ken Silva on Oct 27, 2011
I met Pam at the SYF Workshop I taught for Chad Allen and his Church in Ohio. Check out her story…
“My name is Pam and I attended the “Share your Faith” seminar taught by Ken Silva. I work for Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Correctional Facility and have been looking for a way to share my faith and beliefs with the boys who are incarcerated here. I was very excited to attend the class and was blown away by all of the tools and techniques used to share faith, but I could not see myself actually doing this. I decided to pray the prayer to God asking for him to “send me those who were ready to receive Him.”
This is how I found myself talking to youth Rogers. Rogers is a 17 year old incarcerated youth currently serving a 2 year sentence at CHJCF. I was reading my bible and he asked me what I was reading. It happened to be “The Armor of God” found in Ephesians. No sooner than we started talking that we began talking about this scripture. He asked me how long I had worked at CHJCF. I told him my story of faith. He told me his story of incarceration.
I felt that this was the person God sent to me for his harvest. Soon my “Faith Training” kicked in and took over. I asked Rogers the first question about assurance that he would be in heaven when his life was over. He stated that he wasn’t sure because of all the bad things he had done in his past, but he hoped so. I began using the examples of the 5 finger demonstration – Heaven, Man, God, Christ and Faith. Youth Rogers had a lot of questions and while my words were shaky and my answers may not have been perfect, I asked God to be with me and give me the right words to say to this young man. After a long talk I asked youth Rogers if he wanted to accept the free gift of heaven and eternal salvation and he said yes! We prayed right then and there and afterward, he looked at me and said, “Now you’re my sister in Christ.” It was a wonderful feeling!
I just wanted to thank CVC for the opportunity to bring the “Share your Faith” seminar to CVC. I hope that the training keeps on coming. The angels are rejoicing today because they can add a 17 year old incarcerated kid, youth Rogers, to the Kingdom of Heaven.”
