Is Jesus God? posted by John Sorensen on Dec 16, 2019

Is there any real evidence that Jesus is God? Is it okay if he’s not God? What do we really know about that?

EE’s founder, D. James Kennedy wrote a book called, Why I Believe, and in it, he says that no one can disbelieve Jesus because of a lack of evidence. He wrote that if you really seek the truth, you will find an abundance of evidence!

The four Gospels give us many details about Jesus – they’re quite literally his biography. But beyond Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are dozens of secular historians who talk about Christ. Pontius Pilate, who ordered Christ to be crucified, wrote about his crucifixion day, even saying there was darkness all over the world and the stars came out during the day! Another writer, Thallus, wrote about the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, also saying from noon until three, the sun did not give light. Something important must have been going on, wouldn’t you agree?

We have secular, historical accounts of Jesus’ life, as well as hundreds of Messianic prophecies, and do you know what? Jesus fulfilled every single one of them.

Ultimately, our guide should always be the Word of God. Colossians chapter two verse nine says this about Jesus: In Him dwells all the fullness of God. At the end of the day, when we share our faith and defend it, it is God’s Word that will prevail. We cannot convince a mind made up against Christ, that Jesus is God. Only the Holy Spirit can change the hearts of man.

So, our job is not to convince someone that Jesus is fully God. Our real job is to share the love and grace found in the forgiveness of our sins by the Only One who can save us.

This is our focus this week at Evangelism Explosion through our social media channels and our daily broadcast. We want to be ready with an answer to anyone who asks – and we always want to lead back to the Gospel of Jesus!

May God richly bless you as you learn to share your faith with those around you.
