Mother’s Day posted by John Sorensen on May 06, 2019

Abraham Lincoln once said, ‘I remember my mother’s prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life.’

Your mother brings you into this world, but it doesn’t stop there. Whether or not your biological mother raised you, you’ve probably been influenced greatly by a woman who cared for you like a mother.

I’ve heard about a mother who prayed fervently for her son. She begged him to attend church just one time. She even crossed continents to urge him to go to church. This mother was incredibly persistent…and she prevailed. Her son, Augustine of Hippo finally went to church and was fueled with a passion for Christ! He’s now known for laying the foundation for the Protestant Reformation to happen!

When asked about her own parents, Ruth Graham tells her daughter, Anne Graham Lotz, that she was ‘raised by happy Christians’ and that it made all the difference! Ruth says how important it is to encourage and listen to her children.

‘A mother like God needs to be a very present help in time of trouble,’ said Ruth.

In Paul’s letter to Timothy, he mentioned Lois, Timothy’s mother, and Eunice, Timothy’s grandmother. Paul said that Timothy had a sincere faith, just like the women who raised him!

You see, it’s so important to pray for those coming after us. To be an example for them in the faith and to share the great love of Jesus Christ with them. So, even if you can’t relate to Augustine or Timothy who had godly maternal influences, you can be that godly example to someone now!

Changing the world happens one step – one prayer – at a time. Pray for those younger than you, physically and spiritually, and shine the light of Jesus with your life wherever you go!
As you look forward to be this example to someone, make sure to thank whoever it was that got you where you are now. Someone prayed for you, and that has made all the difference!

This is our focus this week at Evangelism Explosion through our social media channels and our daily broadcast. We’ll be thinking of and thanking God for the influence of godly people in our lives.

May God richly bless you this week as you learn to be a godly example!
