Preclude. Preclude. Preclude. It’s one of the most practical “do’s” when sharing your faith in Jesus Christ.
I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International. When you’re sharing the Gospel with someone, a great technique is always to ask permission to continue to discuss the matter at hand. For example, instead of just jumping headfirst into a Gospel presentation ask, “Would you like me to share with you what I’ve learned about how to get to Heaven?” Your friend’s simple “Yes” to this question may preclude him later saying, “You know you’re shoving this down my throat,” simply because you first asked and then he gave you permission to share. You particularly want to ask your friend’s permission to continue sharing if you sense some reticence on his or her part. As 1 Peter 3:15 reminds us, we are not only to be ready to give an answer, but to do it “with gentleness and respect.” I hope you’ll try this as you share life today.
