Rich DeVos, Amway Co-founder and Former EEI Board Member, Passes Away at 92 posted by jwatson on Sep 07, 2018

Along with all those who knew and loved him, our worldwide family at Evangelism Explosion International mourns the death of Rich DeVos. Rich co-founded Amway and was company president until his retirement in 1993. He also was senior chairman of the Orlando Magic. Rich was the author of five books, a much-in-demand motivational speaker, a community and political leader, and, with his wife Helen, who died in 2017, a generous activist and philanthropist. He passed away September 6, 2018, at age 92. Rich was a former member of the EE Board of Directors, and our Chair of EE’s Council of Reference.

Evangelism Explosion owes a debt of gratitude to Rich. It was through his friendship with the late D. James Kennedy, founder of Evangelism Explosion, where he encouraged Kennedy to apply similar principles that they employed at Amway to evangelism for the purpose of spiritual multiplication. It was that insight, along with his significant council as a member of the Board that has assisted EE in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world.

He also served as a mentor and friend to current Evangelism Explosion President, John Sorensen. Dr. Sorensen said, “Rich encouraged me to invest in others.  I remember him telling me that he didn’t need to be successful, he just had to help others be successful.  And in their success, he would also find success.  We’ve employed that idea within EE.  We strive hard to make others (pastors, leaders, and Christians worldwide) successful, and in doing so, we find success in serving our Lord!”

Our deepest condolences and prayers are extended to the DeVos family.
