Just imagine, for 30 years you’ve been a sheriff’s deputy putting people behind bars. How likely do you think it is, that after retirement, you’ll wanna do just the opposite and help get them out?
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International. This is exactly what happened to Ronnie. After retiring, he turned his badge in for a Bible, and today, he’s doing time as a Chaplain at the very jail where he used to lock people up. This former sheriff, says, “I want people to realize inmates are not all bad. They’ve made mistakes. Let them pay for the crime and let them have a second chance in society.” So now, when inmates request a meeting with him, he listens to their story and then asks if he can share the hope he’s found in Jesus Christ. He says, “I don’t want to help people get out. I want to help people stay out!” Do you or someone in your church feel a calling to start a local jail ministry? If so, we’re here to help.
