Sing Praise! posted by John Sorensen on Feb 01, 2012
My family has always been musical.
One of my first memories of my family growing up is us all singing together “Daddy Sang Bass.” I can”t tell you how good we were, but we sure enjoyed belting it out. Dad had a big voice and easily carried the melody. Mom was always good with a harmony. My brother managed a rich bass. My sister and I held our own. Mostly, it was joy in our hearts leaping into the air via a song of praise.
It”s fun to see how much stays the same. Sunday morning, I had fun singing praise at the top of my voice with my wife singing next to me. My kids all are musical. We are all constantly humming and singing regardless of who hears. I can”t tell you how many times I”ve been asked, “Do you always sing?” Yesterday, one of the property managers where we live in Florida asked the same thing about my daughter. I couldn”t help but smile.
As Christians we are all people of song. We can”t help it. It”s in our new DNA.
When we first believed, we sang the song of deliverance, extolling the Lord for His rich mercy and grace. Singing forth praise for how He took from us our burden and gave us new life. As we walk with Him we still break out in song as we discover His mercy extended to us in fresh and new ways everyday. Truthfully, if we”re not singing, it”s because we have our eyes on other things. When we are careful to look at Him and His great kindness to us, we can”t help but sing.
I”m not sure what all we will be doing in Heaven, but one thing I”m certain of: we will sing with the angels the great songs of old. We will shout out songs of praise to the Great I Am, singing with tears in our eyes for the richness of His favor. Why not start to practice today? Don”t worry with how it sounds. I”m sure that God has an auto-tune, and your song will be a sweet sound of praise before His Ears!
Psalm 138:5- “They shall sing in the ways of the Lord.”
