Perhaps you have heard the saying, “It’s not what people tell you that gets you into trouble, it’s what they don’t tell you.” Many times in life, others don’t tell you the bad news until you are waist deep in the thing. Then they say, “Oh yea, I forgot to tell you…” Right. Thanks. But when it comes to finishing strong in our Christian walk, the writer of Hebrews does the exact opposite. He tells us to consider the hard stuff right now. There are two hurdles that get in the way of us finishing strong. One is the stuff we hang on to. We need to “lay aside every weight.” If you are going to go far, you’ve got to go light. And the second hurdle is sin. Sin is the enemy of persistence.
