Winning the Person posted by John Sorensen on Sep 22, 2016
When we’re sharing the Gospel with someone, how should we respond if they raise a question or objection?
Hi, I’m John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International. If someone has questions, always ask yourself, “Do I want to win the argument or win the person?” So, then how should we respond to someone who raises a question or objection? Well, it’s important to remember that our primary task is to be a witness not a scholar. Also, some questions are sincere while others are really about something else or perhaps a smoke screen. I Peter 3 verse 15 instructs us to be ready and be respectful. So here’s a tip. It’s the Gospel itself, not our clever answers or persuasion, that is the “power of God unto salvation.” Therefore, our goal is to deal with an objection as simply and gently as possible and then continue sharing the powerful Gospel message. If you’re not sure how to do that, we’d love to help. Visit our website at ShareLife.today for free tips and tools like our Answers To Tough Questions resource.
